ABOUT OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department was established during the year 2002-2003 with BA/BCom/BSC -CA(H). In the year 2016 the affiliating university i.e Kolhan university, Chaibasa had adopted CBCS (choice Based Credit Sytem). From 2022 onwards the university implemented NEP (new education policy) 2020. The Department of Computer Applications has completed 17 years of Academic Excellence providing quality education and making a remarkable contribution in the field of technical Education. The student strength of this department is 60.
Our Professor-In-charge Dr. Anwar Shahab led the department since 2002 and continues to guide the department efficiently. He has played a significant role in the development of the department
Prof Abid Hussain, Prof Abhijeet Basu, Prof Sudhal Kumar Acharya, Prof Nupur Roy were appointed in the Department of Computer Applications as Guest Lecturer in the year 2002. Dr. Reeta Kumari was appointed in the Department of Computer Applications as Guest Lecturer in the year 2003 and Prof. Vinod Kumar Sinha was appointed as Guest Lecturer in the year 2004. Prof. Chandana Sharma worked as a Guest Lecturer in the year 2004.
Dr. Susmita Mahto, Prof. Kanchan Mala Siddhi, Prof. Mamta Gupta also worked as a Guest Lecturer in the year 2006.
Presently this department is contended with 5 teaching faculties including 2 regular Prof. Mohammad Asghar Ali joined the department in 2002 and Prof. Noorus Sabah joined the department in August 2010) and 3 guest faculty and 1 non-teaching 2 staff (Lab In-charge and Lab Attendant) member who look after the departmental laboratory. The faculties have many years of teaching experiences. The faculty members are commitment and dedicated for teaching and providing a good learning environment for the growth of students.
The Department of Computer Application prepares students to design, develop and implement software applications and emphasizes on the latest programming languages, cutting edge technologies & tools to make the students ready for the IT Industry. The Department is committed to provide a supportive, friendly and challenging learning environment. It is also is known for facilitating the quality education to the highest and conducting various curricular and extra-curricular activities to make students excel in every field.

PROGRAMMES RUN BY THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Computer Applications runs a four years undergraduate vocational program affiliated to Kolhan University called BCA which is recognized by Ministry of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Jharkhand.
BCA is an undergraduate degree programme open for admission to students passing +2/12th Examination from recognized board.The basic objective of BCA Course is to provide young men and women with the required knowledge and necessary skills to get rewarding careers into the changing world of Information Technology. The BCA course duration is four years which covers a wide range of topics, such as Foundational Mathematics, C Programming Lab, Statistics, Software Engineering, C++ Lab etc.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
BCA or Bachelor of Computer Application is a three-year undergraduate course that imparts students knowledge of basic computing skills and software development. It is usually the first step into the world of Information technology. In the current era of technological advancement, digitalization, and an epochal shift to an economy primarily based upon information technology, it is emerging as one of the most popular courses among young students.B.C.A. graduates can find employment in a variety of fields. Bachelor of Computer Application (B.C.A.) is a suitable education for all aspiring computer software programmers. It will lay a solid basis for programming languages.
COURSES AFTER BCA
There are ample courses that can be pursued after BCA. Four of these courses are listed and explained below.
- MCA: MCA course is a good option to be pursued after BCA because of many reasons. The first reason is the in-depth knowledge of computers and the entire IT industry. The second reason is the employment opportunities because, after MCA, one is ready for various job roles like software developer, software engineer, software tester, web designer, web developer, database administrator, system analyst, and many more.
- MBA: After completing BCA, one can pursue MBA. MBA course focuses on finance, management, and other related topics. Pursuing MBA after BCA can help you get jobs in the field of data analytics, information system management, banking and finance, private equity, and many more.
- M.Sc. IT: MSc IT is a two-year PG program that focuses on topics like software development, data mining, computer systems, analytics, and many more. After getting an MSc IT degree, one can expect a job as an IT analyst, software developer, software engineer, and application programmer.

Computer Programmer
A computer programmer is responsible for planning, writing, and then testing codes or algorithms. A computer programmer develops codes for creating various computer applications using multiple machine languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Java, Python, and many more..
System Analyst
A system analyst is responsible to ensure a smooth and friendly user experience with an application. System analyst examines the system, identifies its requirements, and improves all the problems.

Session 2023-24
TREE PLANTATION
Tree plantation drive was conducted 10th January 2024by the Department of Computer Applications. Many trees were planted by our students in the college. All the students of the department participated in the drive. The members pledged to plant trees at home and in the college campus. Dr Anwar Shahab Coordinator department of computer applications and the Department of information technology and Chief Controller of Exams,Dr. B. N. Tripathiled the drive and encouraged students to plant more and more trees. The department head gave an inspirational speech to the students on the importance of trees in the realms of clean environment and water conservation.
ALUMNUS MEET
An Alumnus meet was organized by the department of theComputer Applications and the department of Information Technology at Karim City College on 29th Nov 2023 in Computer Applications Lab. Our Former student of BScIT, Session 2010-2013, Mr. Karan Sharma was invited to guide our students. Mr. Karan Sharma is currently working as Director Technology and Operations at AH Infotech, USA. He interacted with our present students and discussed his journey of success. He discussed about latest technologies currently on demand in the IT industry. He responded positively to the questions raised by the students during the interactive session.
PARENT TEACHER’S MEET
A parent teacher meeting for Semester I (2023-2027) and Semester II (2022-2026) students of Computer Applications was organized by our department on 20thJan, 2024 and 24th Jan 2024 respectivelyin the Computer Applications Lab. Father/Mother or the Local Guardian on behalf of parents were invited for the meeting to make them aware of their wards performance. All the faculty members were available during the meeting to discuss the information regarding classes, attendance and progress of their wards.
WORKSHOP ON STRESS MANAGEMENT
On 29thJan, 2024,A workshop on Stress Management was organized by the Dept. of Computer Applications and the Dept. of Information Technology, Karim City Collegein theInformation Technology Lab. The Speaker of this event was Dr. Zaki Akhtar, Assistant Professor Dept. of Psychology, Karim City College. He discussed about different types of Personality traits in Human Being and different categories of stress faced by them. He suggested different techniques to overcome the stress.

POWER POINT PRESENTATION COMPETITION
The Department of CA Organized Power Point presentation Competition on 20th March 2021 for the students of BCA semester-I semester-III and semester-V participated in this competition. The programme began with the arrival of Judge Dr. Moiz Ashraf , Assistant Prof. Karim City College.
The competition was to be performed on Recent Technologies in Computer Science Artificial Intelligence and Operating System by performing slides.
The competition was organized by Prof. Asghar Ali and Prof. Farah Naaz under the supervision of coordinator Dr. Anwar Sahab.

INDUCTION MEETING
- The Induction meeting was organized on 30th July, 2019 for the newly admitted students of BCA academic session 2018-2021 in College Auditorium
- Students were given warm welcome today in a function organized for this purpose. The Principal of the college, Dr. Mohammad Zakaria welcomed students as the new members of Karim City College family. He extended his whole hearted support in the creation of a conducive atmosphere in the He asked all students to use the facility available in the college like virtual library ,reading room etc.
- Anwar Shahab, Prof-in-charge Department of Computer Applications and Department of Information Technology welcomed the students and introduced the Chief Guest and faculty members to the students. He also encouraged students to actively participate in the social work.
Merits of Parent’s Teacher meeting
Parents were invited during induction meeting along with newly admitted students ,they were briefed about the college rules ,course design and structure ,university examination, students facility systems and other related informations.
A request was made to seek their active cooperation in the study of their ward as they are an important stake holder in this journey.

On 09th January, 2020 a blood donation camp was organized by Karim City College, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The Camp was inaugurated by Dr. Mohammad Reyaz, Principal Karim City College. A session on “Recent Trend in Computer Technology 2020” was organized today in Karim City College in collaboration with RVSCET. Students of Computer Applications, IT, Maths, Physics, & Chemistry participated and took active part in question answer session.
Prof. Dhiraj Kumar Mishra gave his presentation on AI & explained the applications of AI in todays world . Prof. Kishore Kumar Ray spoke on cloud computing and gave the concept of cloud & its uses in real world networking. Prof. Yogendra Kumar , HOD, MCA, RVSCET also attended the program.

The Department of Computer Applications Organized Power Point presentation Competition on 09th January 2019 for the students of BCA semester 3.There were 9 team participated in this competition. The programme began with the arrival of Chief Guest and Judge Dr. Sushmita Mahato , Lecturer Jamshedpur Women’s College and Prof. in Charge CA Department Dr. Anwar Shahab. The participating teams were then introduced to the rules and the regulations of the competition with the declaration of the competition being opened by the Prof. Md. Asghar Ali. Different Team put their best foot forward by making a presentation of the slides they have prepared.
