Department of Physics
About the Department
The Department of Physics, Karim City College came into existence in 1978. Undergraduate teaching, without Honours, started in the year 1981. The department got permission for Honours course in the year 1985. The department keeps itself alive with regular academic activities. It has well equipped laboratory. The department is continuously upgrading itself according to the changing curriculum and needs of the time, from Annual to Semester to CBCS to FYUGP.
As a result of collective efforts of students, laboratory staff and teachers the department is able to deliver wonderful results with continual increase in the number of students scoring 90% and above in their university examinations. It is a matter of great pride that our students are getting very good placements in different companies.
PHYSICS LABORATORY:
- The laboratory is well – equipped in which the students perform practical up to Honours level.
- The laboratory can easily be upgraded to P.G. level.
- There is a computer with internet connectivity and printer in the laboratory.
- There is an LED Projector in the laboratory.
DEPARTMENTAL LIBRARY
The department has its own library which is accessible to all the students of Physics Honours.
- of Books of UG level: 83

VISION:
- To bring the Department in the core of the academic life taking place in our university
- To build a foundation for excellence and encourage the development of the department as a premier institution by igniting and promoting enthusiasm, interests and passion, in the study of Physics
MISSION:
- To awaken the young minds and discover their talents both in theory and practical physics, through dedication to teaching, commitment towards students and innovational methods like PPT and visual aids.
- To support the developmental activities of the College and make the department vibrant.
- To develop strategy in the department for continuous improvement.
Programmes run by the department:
B.Sc. (Honours) in Physics is the only programme that is run by the department.
CARRIER OPPORTUNITIES
After completing Physics Honours course, students attain a strong base of fundamental knowledge in physics-centric courses.
After earning B. Sc. degree in physics, various opportunities are available for the students. It can be a gratifying career as science school teacher to a far-reaching career in NASA or ISRO as a space researcher.
COURSES AND EXAMS AFTER B.SC. PHYSICS
Students are eligible for:
- MRNAT exams, for admission in UG and PG programmes in Manav Rachna University and Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies
IIT-JAM exams for admission in PG course in IIT.
- JEST is an entrance examination conducted by Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) for admission in integrated M.Tech, Ph.D. courses in the institutes that demand JEST scores.
- TIFR enrolls students in its master course in integrated course M.Sc./Ph.D. by conducting a national level test.
