SESSION : 2023-2024
Guest Lecture:
A guest lecture was organized under the aegis of the Post Graduate Department of Urdu, Karim City College on 27th July 2023. In the first shift, a lecture was held on Urdu poet Prakash Fikri and in the second shift on Shaeq Muzaffarpuri. Both the poets were related to Jharkhand. The invited speaker was poet, litterateur and poet Professor Ahmed Badr. The programme was presided over by Principal Dr. Mohammad Reyaz. Professor Ahmed Badr said about Prakash Fikri that he was related to modernity. The pain of the times emerges as the main topic in his poetry, but in the poetry of Shayeq Muzaffarpuri, along with progressiveness, one also gets a glimpse of modernity. The Principal said that both of them were such poets who brought fame to Jharkhand and Jamshedpur in the literary world. The program was presided over by Principal Dr. Mohammad Reyaz.
Student Seminar:
A departmental seminar was organized under the aegis of Post Graduate Department of Urdu, Karim City College. It was presided over by the Head of the Department, Dr. Afsar Kazmi and was attended as the chief guest by the Chief Controller of Examinations and Senior Professor, Dr. B. N. Tripathi. The topic of the seminar was Zaki Anwar as a story writer. Mohammad Adil, Muhawara Fayyaz, Ghazala Parween and Gulafshan Praween of the final semester of PG read their papers throwing light on the writing style of Urdu’s famous story writer Zaki Anwar, the subjects of his stories and his biography, all the four students presented their well-arranged views. Certificates were also handed over to the four students by the chief guest, Dr. B. N. Tripathi.
Guest Lecture organized by PG Department of Urdu :
On 12 December 2023, a guest lecture was organized under the aegis of PG Department of Urdu, Karim City College, in which Dr. Jamshed Qamar, a retired professor from Ranchi University, attended as a guest speaker. The topic of the lecture was: “How do we understand Adab”. While talking on the prescribed topic, Dr. Qamar said that adab i.e. literature is the biggest asset of human life. We should read literature in such a way that it can also be included in our character and we can be successful in reaching the next video. Along with reading the literature, before this, head of the department Dr. Afsar Kazmi welcomed the guest speaker. The meeting was presided over by Principal Dr. Mohammad Reyaz.
During this, the Controller of Examinations of the college, Dr. B.N Tripathi and Professor Mohammad Issa were also present. Principal Mohammad Reyaz, while giving the presidential speech, congratulated the Urdu Department of the college for organizing this beautiful and informative program. Dr. Shahbaz Ansari expressed his gratitude from the department.
International Mother Language Day:
On 21 February 2024, a program was organized on International Mother Language Day under the aegis of the Urdu Department of Karim City College Sakchi Jamshedpur, in which all the Urdu students studying in graduation and post-graduation participated. Dr. B.N. Tripathi, Chief Controller and head of the Bengal Department, attended as the chief guest. Speaking on mother tongue, Dr. Afsar Kazmi said that mother tongue is the language which we get from our mother, hence this language is as dear and respectable in our eyes as our beloved mother. We should make every possible effort that our mother tongue Urdu should develop first and become popular all over the world. Dr. Tripathi said that the fight for mother tongue which was fought in Bangladesh was a unique fight in the world and in that fight, the importance of mother tongue was told to the whole world. Dr. Tanweer Jamal Kazmi, Dr. Shahbaz Ansari, Dr. Omprakash Singha Deo and Mohammad Asif specially participated in this program. The meeting was conducted by Professor Mohammad Issa.

Departmental Seminar PG:
PG Department of Urdu, Karim City College organized a Departmental Seminar for PG students during 13th August 2022 on Jharkhand mein Urdu Afsananigari. Dr. Afsar Kazmi was the Keynote Speaker of the Seminar and Principal Dr. Mohammad Reyaz was present as Chief Guest. Dr. Shahbaz Ansari conducted the programme. Md Waliullah, Aisha Ansaria Neha Perween and Aman Saba participated and presented their papers in this seminar.
Book Release Ceremony :
- A Collection of Essays of a senior faculty member of the Department Dr. Afsar Kazmi, titled “Zawia Dar Zawia” was released in a ceremony organized by the Department on 18th September 2022. This function was presided by Dr. Moammad Reyaz and Prof. Sima Jabeen, Rtd. Head of Urdu Department, Karim City College Jamshedpur was the Chief Guest. The Program was held in the Faculty Studies of Karim City College and witnessed by a good number of faculty members of Karim City College, along with literary gentry of the city. A good number of students of the Department were also present to mark the occasion.
- A Collection of Poetry of the faculty member of the Department Mohammad Issa (Gauhar Aziz) titled “Andhere Ujale” was released in a ceremony organized by “Dabistan-e-Jamshedpur collaborated with Department of Urdu, Karim City College, Jamshedpur on 4th February 2023. This function was presided by famous poet Mr. Aslam Badr and Dr. Hassan Imam Mallick (Sports Manager, Tata Steel, Jamshedpur) was the Chief Guest. Program was held in the College Auditorium of Karim City College and witnessed by a good number of faculty members of Karim City College, along with literary gentry of the city. A good number of students of the Department were also present to mark the occasion.

Professor, Department of Urdu, Karim City College, Jamshedpur was organized by the Department on 12th April, 2023. Apart from the students all teachers of Urdu Department along with Principal Dr. Mohammad Reyaz and faculty members of other departments attended this program. The program was conducted by Mohammad Issa. It was ended with a fruitful question answer session.
Farewell to outgoing batch :
A farewell program was organized by the Post-Graduate Sem-2 students for the outgoing batch of Post Graduate Sem-4 students. This program was attended by the students of both the sessions along with the faculty members, Controller of Examination Dr. B. N. Tripathi and Principal Dr. Mohammad Reyaz. In this program senior students shared their memories, teaching learning experiences and valuable tips with the junior ones.

Program of Story Recitation:
In the Department of Urdu, Karim City College, a program of story recitation is organised for the students of every semester in which students from UG and PG both the classes participate and one student recites a famous story of a great story writer.
This time this program was organised on the date 14th March 2022 (Monday) in E-Class Room No.1. Department Head Dr. Afsar Kazmi presided the program, Dr. Shahbaz Ansari presented his views on the art of story recitation and the student of Graduation Mohammad Minhaj recited the famous story “Kafan” written by Premchand. In the end Prof. Ahmed Badr and Prof. Mohammad Issa presented the review.
Program of Poetry Recitation:
Just as understanding poetry is very important for a student of literature, similarly poetry recitation i.e. the style of reading poetry is also very important. Under the same idea, the Department of Urdu, Karim City College organized the event in Class Room No.2 in which three students presented Nazm and Ghazal. Safdar Haroon, a student of post-graduation recited Allamaa Iqbal’s Ghazal “Kabhi Aaye Haqiqat Muntaxa” and Noor Tanweera student of under-graduation recited Ghalib’s Ghazal “Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi ke Har Khwahish pr Dam Nikle” and student of under-graduation Adeeba Jamil beautifully presented Faiz Ahmad Faiz’s poem “Mujhe Pehli si Mohabbat Mere Mehboob Na Maang”. This event was held under the presidentship of the Head of the Department Dr. Afsar Kazmi. Dr. Shahbaz Ansari and Prof. Mohammad Issa expressed his views on the style of reading poetry.
Essay Writing Competition:
An Essay Writing Competition for under-graduation & post-graduation students was organized on 16th May 2022 (Monday) in Room No. 23. The topic of the competition was “Hamari Zindagi per Taleem ke Asraat.” One hour was given to the students to complete the essay.

Seminar on Sahir Ludhyanvi :
The seminar on “Sahir Ludhiynvi” was organized by 6th March, 2021. On the occasion of the birth centenary of the world famous Urdu poet and lyricist of Indian cinema, Sahir Ludhyanvi, the Postgraduate Urdu Department, Karim City College organised a seminar in the College Auditorium in which the world famous Urdu Scholar Professor Ali Ahmed Fatmi participated as the chief guest. He presented the keynote address. From Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Jayantgarh, Chaibasa and many scholars from Jamshedpur presented their research papers. This seminar was organised in two sessions and ended in the evening. The program was conducted by Prof. Ahmad Badr and the Principal Dr. Mohammad Reyaz expressed his gratitude in the presence of secretary and former principal of the college Dr. Mohammad Zakaria and former department head Professor Sima Jabeen.

P.G. Department of Urdu, Karim City College organized a Departmental Seminar for PG students on 4th September 2019 on the topic “Urdu Drama Anar Kali. Dr. Afsar Kazmi was the Keynote Speaker of the Seminar. Examination Controller Dr. B. N. Tripathi was present as a Chief Guest. Dr. Shahbaz Ansari conducted the program. Md. Wasim Firdaus, Shaequa Naaz, Zareen Fatma and Sadaf Maryam participated and presented their papers in this seminar. Prof. Seema Jabeen expressed her reviews on the performance of the students. Prof. Ahmad Badr presented vote of thanks.
Guest Lecture :
A Guest Lecture on noted Urdu Novelist and Story Writer Premchand delivered by Dr. Sandhya Sinha, Asstt. Professor, Dept. of Hindi, Karim City College, Jamshedpur was organized by the Department on 31st July 2019 (Wednesday). Apart from the students, all teachers of Urdu Department along with Principal Dr. Mohammad Zakaria and faculty members of other departments attended this program. The program was conducted by Mohammad Issa. It was ended with a fruitful question answer session. Dr. Gupta explained all novels by Premchand and said him a great writer of Dehaat.
Web Lecture
A Web Lecture was organised through Google Meet on the topic “Kalimuddin Ahmad ki Tanquidi wa Tahquiqi Khidmat” The event was organized on 21st June 2020. The famous scholar and Head, Department of Urdu, Patna University, Patna and editor of “Urdu Journal” Dr. Shahab Zafar Azmi was the chief speaker. He delivered a detailed lecture on Prof. Kalimuddin Ahmad and his great contribution in Urdu Criticism. He said that Kalimuddin Ahmad was a bebaak naquid in Urdu. He neglected criticism in Urdu and he invited Urdu Dunia to pay attention to the real meaning of criticism. Prof. Sima Jabeen said thanks to all. Prof. in charge Dr. Mohammad Reyaz welcomed the guest and all Urdu loving people joined the web Lecture. Dr. Sima jabeen, Dr. Afsar Kazmi, Dr. Shafiullah Ansari, Dr. Ajaz Ahmad, Dr. Aaley Ahmad, Dr. Fakhrudding, Prof. Mohammad Issa, Dr. Shahbaz Ansari, Dr. Anwari Buegum, Dr. Ruqauya Bano and a great number of students from Jamshedpur joined the lecture.
Web Lecture
A Web Lecture was organised through Google Meet. This was organized on 24th June 2020. The topic of the Lecture was “Meer Taqui Meer ki Shairy” Dr. Dabeer Ahmad a famous scholar and critic in Urdu Literatue, Maulana Azad College, Kolkata delivered a detail Lecture on Meer Taqui Meer and his Shayri. Prof. Ahmad Badr conducted he programme. Prof. in charge Dr. Mohammad Reyaz welcomed the guest and all Urdu loving people joined the web Lecture. Dr. Shahab Zafar Azmi from Patna, Dr. Sima jabeen, Dr. Afsar Kazmi, Dr. Shafiullah Ansari, Dr. Ajaz Ahmad, Dr. Aaley Ahmad, Dr. Fakhrudding, Prof. Mohammad Issa, Dr. Shahbaz Ansari, Dr. Anwari Buegum, Dr. Ruqauya Bano and a great number of students from Jamshedpur joined the lecture. SESSION : 2018-2019
Baitbazi:
In the month of August, the department organized Baitbazi with a purpose to create a literary environment. The competition was organized in E- Class Room-2 on 10th August, 2018. Four teams from both UG and PG participated in Baitbazi. There were two participants in every team. Dr. Afsar Kazmi presided the program and it was conducted by Prof. Mohmmad Issa. Dr. Shahbaz Ansari gave his critical comments after the event. The competition continued for two hours and Team No. 3 (Tabassum and Farhat Nishat) of PG was declared as the winner and Team No. 2 (Md. Adil & Nigar Perween) stood as the runner.
Departmental Seminar (UG):
P.G. Department of Urdu, Karim City College organized a Departmental Seminar for UG students on 13th December, 2018 (Thursday) on the topic “Nazeer Akberabadi: Shakhsiyat and Fun”. Prof. Ahmad Badr was the Keynote Speaker of the Seminar and Principal Dr. Mohammad Zakria was present as the Chief Guest. Dr. Shahbaz Ansari conducted the program. Md. Wasim Ansari, Sabahat Arshi, Ghazala Perween and Shahina Perween participated and presented their papers in the seminar. Dr. Afsar Kazmi proposed the vote of thanks.

PG Department of Urdu, Karim City College organized a Departmental Seminar for PG students on 12th January. 2019 (Saturday) on the topic “Urdu Sahafat: Mazi aur Hal”. Prof. Ahmad Badr was the Keynote Speaker of the Seminar and Principal Dr. Mohammad Zakaria was present as the Chief Guest. Prof. Mohammad Issa conducted the program. Dil Mohammad Ansari, Shahla Tarannum and Farhat Nishat participated and presented their papers in this seminar. Dr. Afsar Kazmi analysed the seminar and Dr. Shahbaz Ansari presented vote of thanks.
Essay Writing Competition:
An Essay Writing Competition was organized for the UG and PG students on 25th March 2019 (Monday) in Room No. 2 at 1:00 a.m. The topic of the competition was “Urdu Shairy mein Ghazal ka Muqam” which was announced earlier. Ten student of UG and Six student of PG participated in the competition. Dil Mohammad of PG stood first, whereas, Shahina Perween won the second prize. Prof. Ahmad Badr evaluated the essays of the competition.
Urdu Quiz:
P.G. Department of Urdu, Karim City College organized a Quiz Competition for UG and PG students on 27th April 2019 (Saturday) on the topic of “History of Urdu Literature”. Dil Mohammad was the quiz master. About twenty students participated in the event. Farhat Nishat got maximum points and stood first and Kahkashan Afreen got the 2nd prize. The winner and runner got prizes by the Principal Dr. Mohammad Zakaria. Prof. Sima Jabeen, Dr. Afsar Kazmi, Prof. Ahmad Badr and Prof. Mohammad Issa were present in the event. Dr. Shahbaz Ansari presented vote of thanks.
Regional Seminar:
A regional Seminar on the topic of “Shaeq Muzaffarpur: Bahaisiyat Ghazalgo Shayer” was organized on 1st April 2018 (Sunday) in E-Class Room-2 organised by PG Department of Urdu, Karim City College, Jamshedpur. In the seminar 50 scholars, Professors and Urdu loving people attended the program. Ten scholars presented their papers. Prof. Sima Jabeen chaired the seminar and Prof. Ahmad Badr delivered the keynote address. Specially Dr. Anwari Begum, Rashid Jahan Anwar, Firdaus Jabeen, Tanweer Akhtar Roomani, Dr. Akhtar Azad, Jameel Mazhar, Anwar Adeeb, Taban wasti were present in the seminar.
Guest Lecture :
A Guest Lecture entitled “Urdu Nasrnigari mein Jharkhand ka Hissa” was delivered by a known scholar Dr. Jamshed Quamar, Asstt. Professor, Department of Urdu, Ranchi University, Ranchi was organized by the Department on 3rd October 2018 (Wednesday). Apart from the students all teachers of Urdu Department along with Principal Dr. Mohammad Zakaria and faculty members of other departments attended this program. The program was conducted by Mohammad Issa. It was ended with a fruitful question answer session.
Departmental Achievements
The history of the Urdu department of Karim City College has been very bright. The teachers who joined this department since the beginning were scholars in their respective fields and are still remembered in the Urdu world.
- Manzar Shahab was the first head of the department, who was known as a famous litterateur, Critic, Dramatist of Urdu and poet, he is still taught in the Urdu curriculum. He wrote “Aur Phir Bayan Apna”(Critical essays), Pairahan-e-Jaan (Poetry collections) and Majrooh Parinde ki Sadaa (Poetry collection). The books written by them are a great achievement of the Urdu department of the College.
- Zaki Anwar has also been a professor of the Urdu department, who has the distinction of being a great Urdu litterateur. He was a great novelist and story writer. He wrote 30 Novels along with about 500 short stories and plays. Shikast hi Shikast, Heere ka Jigar, Zahr, Zanjeer, Menhdi aour Angarey and Sheesha-e-Dil are his commended novels. His stories are still included in the curriculum of many universities.
- Manzar Kazmi was the head of the Urdu department of this college. He is also a great litterateur. He is famous and is remembered as a story writer and has also being taught in the curriculum of many universities. Many researches have also been done on him. The name of his main book is Laxman Rekha. His literary essays and research work were published as Maqalat-e-Manzar and Atraf-e-Ghazal.
- Syed Ahmed Shamim became the head of the department. He is known as a progressive writer and poet. His books are Arzang, Be Dar-o- Deewar and Doobti Shaam.
- Ahmed Badr served as a professor in the Urdu department from 2003 to 2023. He was also accepted as a famous poet and litterateur. His famous books are “Hasil-e-Mutalya” and “Kahan se Laut Aayhe”. His poetry collection “Sheesh Ka Saiban” is included in the syllabus of many universities. He has edited the Research Journal “Tahqeeq”.
- Afsar Kazmi is also a well-known litterateur and has also contributed to the Urdu world. His books are Manzar Kazmi ki Afsana Nigari, Jharkhand ke Muntakhib Afsana Nigar, Panch Azim Afsana Nigar, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Par-e-Shikasta (Poetry Collection), Mujtaba Hussain ba Haisiyat Tanz Nigar, etc.
- Mohammad Issa is also a professor in the Department of Urdu, Karim City College, He is a famous poet in the Urdu literary world with his pen name of Gauhar Aziz. His poetry collection is published in the name of “Andhere Ujale”.
- Shahbaz Ansari is working as assistant Professor. His expertise is in Urdu fiction and novel. He appointed as evaluator and question paper setter for UG & PG examination, Kolhan University, Chaibasa and Women University, Jamshedpur. He has been Invited to deliver lectures and as a subject expert for UG & PG viva voce examination conducted in different colleges. He also participated in orientation Programme, workshops, and seminars/conferences and published articles in journals.

1. Tarannum Begum
Tarannum Begum completed her Post graduation in Urdu from our college. She was a bright and dedicated student of session 2015-2017. She was the university topper. She qualified BPSC TRE-2: 11th -12th High School and joined in U.M.S. Amas, Gaya on 12th Feb. 2024.
2. Shehla Tarannum
Shehla Tarannum was a student of Urdu at Karim City College. Her session was 2017-2019. After passing M.A she was selected as a teacher by JPSC in 2020 and posted in R P Patel High School Jugsalai, since then she is serving there as an Urdu teacher.
3. Md. Tausif Iqbal
Md. Tausif Iqbal, S/o-Md. Shamimuddin was a student of Urdu department, Karim City College. His session was 2018-2020. After passing M.A he qualified BPSC TRE-1: 9th -10th High School and joined in U.H.S. Sarebad, Sono, Jamui on 15th Nov. 2023 to 20 Feb. 2024.
He also qualified BPSC TRE-2: 11th -12th High School and joined in U.M.S. Anandpur, Laxmipur, Jamui on 21st Feb. 2024.
4. Dil Mohammad
Dil Mohammad was a student of Urdu at Karim City College. His session was 2017-2019.
After passing M.A. he went to do B. Ed. by MANUU, Asansol.
This year 2024 he was selected as a PGT teacher by BPSC and posted in UPGRADED INTER
HIGH SCHOOL(UHS), Dariya pur, Gaya, Bihar and now he is serving there as an Urdu teacher.
5. Md. Waliullah
Md. Waliullah was a student of Urdu, department, Karim City College. His session was 2020-2022. After passing M.A. he qualified Test Exam and Interview (Sahayak Aacharya) And Joined Central Karimia Middle School as a teacher on 14th Nov. 2022.
6. Nazia Karim
Nazia Karim was a student of Urdu at Karim City College. Her session was 2017-2019. After passing MA, she joined Bramha Nand Netralay Hospital. Since then, she is serving there as a nurse.
Waseem Firdaus, the student of the Department of Urdu, Karim City College. the students have gotten success to take admission in B.Ed.
Farhat Nishat, Tabassum Perween, Seema Shahla, Tabassum and Tarannum Begum were the students of the department. They passed the post-graduation and this year 2024 qualified the entrance test for Ph.D registration in Kolhan University, Chaibasa (Jharkhand).
Tarannum Begum obtained the highest marks in the annual examination of session 2015-2017 in Post-Graduation in Urdu conducted by Kolhan University and she was announced the University Topper in Urdu. And she was invited to provide teaching service for 1 year in the Department of Urdu, Kolhan university, Chaibasa.
Farhat Nishat obtained the highest marks in the annual examination of session 2017-2019 in Post-Graduation in Urdu conducted by Kolhan University and she was announced the University Topper in Urdu. And she was invited to provide teaching service for 1 year in the Department of Urdu, Kolhan university, Chaibasa.
Raushan Bano obtained the highest marks in the annual examination of session 2018-2020 in Post-Graduation in Urdu conducted by Kolhan University and she was announced the University Topper in Urdu. And she was invited to provide teaching service for 1 year in the Department of Urdu, Kolhan university, Chaibasa.
Tabassum Perween obtained the highest marks in the annual examination of session 2020-2022 in Post-Graduation in Urdu conducted by Kolhan University and she was announced the University Topper in Urdu. And she was invited to provide teaching service for 1 year in the Department of Urdu, Kolhan university, Chaibasa.
