ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Our department offers a four year under-graduate program in IT Major course. Our college is affiliated to Kolhan University, Chaibasa. We are catering to students who hail from Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal.

The Department of Information Technology has completed its 21 glorious years (in 2024) in the pursuit of excellence, and has made remarkable strides, in curricular and co-curricular activities. It has emerged as one of the leading institution in Jamshedpur, with a growing reputation among academia and parents. It has become the best choice of parents and students for enriching multi-dimensional experience of learning leading to a bright future in IT industry. Our students are working across the leading IT industry giants in India namely TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Accenture, HP ,HCL, Concentrix and Oracle etc.

Our department recognizes the importance of quality and modern infrastructure for ensuring remarkable teaching-learning standards. The New Education Policy 2020 implemented in our university from the academic session 2022 has done away with the boundaries of faculty. Students from Arts and Commerce streams are also inclined now to join this course.

To produce technologically competent graduates by implementing modern techniques and processes in teaching – learning and evaluation.
To produce successful graduates with holistic development.
To inculcate entrepreneurial attitude and values among students.
To imbibe social and ethical values among students.

HISTORY

With the development of economies worldwide, the labor market became more specialized. The demand for higher levels of skill both in government and business sector were in demand. This led to the development of vocational education. The management of our college decided to bring in more vocational and professional courses to make this institution distinct and different from others. A milestone was laid when UGC and Department of Human Resource Development, government of Jharkhand permitted to start B.Sc.IT (Hons) as a vocational course under Self Financing Scheme from the session 2002-2003 under Ranchi University. In the year 2009, Kolhan University came up at Chaibasa. This became our new affiliating university. We admit 60 students every year in this course.

Dr. Anwar Shahab led the department since 2002 as Professor-In-charge and continues to guide the department efficiently. He has played a significant role in the development of the department.

Prof. Abid Hussain, Prof. Abhijit Basu, Prof. S.K.Acharya, Prof. Nupur Roy, Dr. Reeta Kumari, were appointed in the department as guest faculty in due course of progress. Afterwards some more faculties like Prof. Chandana Sharma, Prof. Kanchan Mala Siddhi, Prof. Mamta Gupta, Prof. Susmita Mahato also joined the department and contributed with their best guidance and supervision.

Presently the department has a team of four teachers for mentoring the students.

The department is determined to give wings to its students so that they may fly to the height of academics.

Career opportunity

After successful completion of B.Sc.IT, students get many career opportunities in private and public sectors according their choice. Some of can be:

In IT industry (Wipro, TCS, Accenture, Cognizant, Tech Mahindra, Oracle etc), they can get the opportunity to become web designer, database admin ,hardware and network expert etc.

Students can also opt for higher studies and can do Masters in Science in IT, MCA or MBA (preferably in IT). These options can help them to get a very productive job. Students can qualify GATE Examination and depending upon GATE score they can get advantage for higher education and public sector jobs.
