Department of Philosophy
About the Department:
The Department of Philosophy was established in 1961 at Karim City College, Jamshedpur. The Department of Philosophy has a glorious history and eminent scholars, like – Dr. Iqbal Hussain Ansari, Dr. Md. Ashraf Bihari, Dr. Aquil Ahmad and Dr. Joyti Kumari. There are two teaching faculties at present in the Department, namely – Dr. Abdul Latif Mondal and Dr. Md. Mujahidul Hoque.
The Department of Philosophy offers Undergraduate Courses in different areas, like – Indian Philosophy, Western Philosophy, Metaphysics, Epistemology, Logic, Ethics, Applied Ethics, Tribal Philosophy, Contemporary Indian Philosophy, and Critical Thinking; and there are one hundred forty students enrolled in the Department.
The Department of Philosophy is a hub of intellectual exploration and research activities. The Faculty members of the Department are actively involved in research activities and participating in national and international seminars, conferences and other academic activities. The Department of Philosophy is dedicated to continuous academic activities, evaluating its programs and curriculum. The Department of Philosophy offers a comprehensive and dynamic curriculum that encompasses classical, modern, and contemporary philosophical traditions. The Department of Philosophy provides a platform for critical thinking and rigorous inquiry, providing a space where students can engage themselves in different academic discussions, debates and dialogues. Through open dialogue and discussion, students are encouraged to engage in diverse academic activities for the sake of knowledge and wisdom. Curiosity for knowledge and wisdom is not merely an academic endeavour but a lifelong journey. This lifelong journey of philosophy provides a multidisciplinary nature of philosophy with a holistic approach for the students’ development to integrate philosophical insights into various academic fields of study.

The main vision of the Department of Philosophy is to enhance the innovative and creative ideas among the students providing a platform for creative and critical thinking. The mission of the Department of Philosophy is to promote philosophy providing a comprehensive and rigorous discipline that encourages students to explore diverse philosophical thinking. To create a student-centric environment, the Department provides a platform for promoting intellectual growth and ethical thinking among the students. The Department of Philosophy is committed for serving the students and helping them to get sound knowledge to become responsible citizens of the country and, most importantly, good human beings for the societal welfare. The vision and mission of the Department of Philosophy reflect a commitment in value-education and research activities, guided by the critical thinking and ethical principles.
