About the Department

In 1961, the Department of Philosophy was established at Karim City College. The philosophy department has been of immense importance since the beginning of the college in order to promote higher education. The department has a very remarkable and glorious history, eminent scholar like Dr. Iqbal Hussain Ansari, Dr. Md. Ashraf Bihari, Dr Aquil Ahmad and Joyti Kumari served as a faculty here. At present there are two teaching faculties in the department. Dr. Abdul Latif Mondal and Dr. Mujahidul Hoque.

Vision:-

The main focus of the department of philosophy is on teaching, skill development and innovation.
The department will organise one national seminar and one international seminar in coming five years.
To motivate students for further studies in Philosophy and go for research in the subject.
To start counseling classes for Philosophy to qualify in the UPSC, PSC, NET/SLET exams.
To establish centre for Applied Philosophy and inter-disciplinary studies.
To establish a centre for studies and research in cultural and religious life of tribes of Jharkhand.

Mission:-

The department is committed to serve students and help them to get sound knowledge and required skills to become responsible persons and citizens, rational being and most importantly, a good human being.
To think critically, to express philosophical ideas clearly and confidently.
Not only focus on ‘to create knowledge’ but also focus on ‘to produce something’.
Focus on cognitive, emotional and social development, fundamentals of designing (design thinking for leading and learning), implementing, and evaluating educational curriculum including planning, teaching strategies, material selections, diversity issues, assignment techniques, and technological integration.

The wonderful thing about philosophy is that every field in the world has a philosophy behind it- from the philosophy of history and the philosophy of education to legal philosophy, medical philosophy, political philosophy and more.
You can apply your knowledge of philosophical thinking to almost any career and role. Many philosophy students become civil servant, law professionals, teachers and academicians, professors, but there is certainly space for philosophers in the C-suite too.
