On the occasion of the martyrdom anniversary of renowned Urdu short story writer and novelist Zaki Anwar, the Urdu Department at Karim City College organized a symposium titled “Zaki Anwar: Life and Literature.” Dr. S.C. Gupta, Head of the Hindi Department and a thinker on Hindi and Urdu mix culture, attended as the chief guest. In addition to the faculty, a large number of students participated and benefited from the programme. The programme was presided over by Dr. Shahbaz Ansari, Head of the Urdu Department. Student Sabiha Firdous began the programme with a recitation from the Holy Quran. Professor Muhammad Issa (Gauhar Aziz) created atmosphere the symposium by speaking on the status and importance of Zaki Anwar in Urdu literature. Ayesha Firdous, Mahfooz Ansari, and Sadaf Attariya read pamphlets and stories on the assigned topic. Chief guest Dr. Gupta, speaking on the topic “Zaki Anwar and the Progressive Movement,” said that Zaki Anwar was a storyteller who not only wrote about ideologies but also embodied them in his own life, which, in turn, led to his martyrdom. Finally, Dr. Sadiq Iqbal delivered the vote of thanks.
