About the Department
The Department of Geography was established in 1965. Prof. S.S. Madni served as the founding head and currently, the department boasts four highly qualified faculty members including Dr. Aaley Ali (HoD & Associate Professor), Dr. Mohammad Reyaz (Principal & Associate Professor), Dr. Farzana Anjum, and Dr. Pasarul Islam (Assistant Professor). Dr. Nigar Alam Siddiqi, who also served and contributed to the department, is presently associated with Aligarh Muslim University (A.M.U). Mr. Md Khalid diligently serves as non-teaching staff in the department.
The Geography department is fully equipped with Cartographic Lab and Surveying Instruments, Computers and Modern Smart Classrooms prioritizes practical learning environment. It has its own meteorological observatory that demonstrate its unwavering commitment to experiential education. The department has wide collection of books in English, Hindi and Urdu caters to the diverse needs of students.
The Department organizes prescribed Field surveys, Geographical Excursions, research projects related to environment or society on Scientific Methodology, environmental awareness programmes and projects related to the Government of India flagship programmes on Rural Development and Disaster Management.
Under the umbrella of NEP – 2020, the Department has started prescribed Field visits of Local Mining and degraded areas. It also conducts case study on disaster awareness, preparedness and application of Remote Sensing, GIS and GPS for disaster risk assessment
Finally, we aim to start PG classes in Geography with all such efforts and equipments.

B.A (Hons.) Geography
The Department of Geography at Karim City College, Jamshedpur, has been offering the B.A. Geography Program since 1965. The department is diligently working in alignment with the college’s vision to enhance the performance of students. It has consistently produced university toppers during the sessions of 2015-18 and 2016-19. The percentage of students passing the exams has varied, ranging from 85.71% in 2020-23 to 100% in 2017-20 and 2018-21. The percentage of students achieving first class with distinction has fluctuated from 20.83% in 2020-23 to 38.10% in 2019-22. Additionally, the percentage of students attaining a first division has ranged from 59.15% to 100%. Overall, these results indicate that the B.A. (Hons.) Geography program at Karim City College is both challenging and rewarding. Successful students in the program are well-prepared for careers in geography, education, and various other fields.
