Teaching in the Department of Economics was started from the session 1965-66 when the college was granted affiliation by the Ranchi University Ranchi on 01.05.1965. However Honours course was started in the year 1991. Presently there are three permanent teachers in the department working against sanctioned post. Two Of them Dr. Ajaz Ahmad and Dr. Syed Iftekhar Nabi are in the rank of Associate professor and Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmad is in the rank of Assistant Professor (Senior Scale) In Hons course and General courses students are admitted on Merit (marks basis).Students from all section of Society, mainly from middle class gets enrolled. A good number of students also come from SC/ST and minority communities. Some of the students also come to get admission from adjoining states like Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha etc. The College has send proposal and request to the University for permission to start Post Graduate Course in economics. It is expected that from next academic session department will start classes in M.A Economics. The Department has also plan to start Post Graduate Diploma in Econometrics provided Kolhan University Chaibasa permits the same. The Department organizes students seminar every year. The Department organizes Parent -Teacher Meetings every year. Class test of Hons students are conducted by the teachers with regular interval.

• Attended and presented paper in xiv Annual Geography Conference held at Karim City college, Jamshedpur in February 2015 titled Energy Infrastructure: Critical to Jharkhands Development
• Participated in the short term course on Compute Application from 2nd February to 8th February 2016, at karim City College, Jamshedpur under the scheme of PMMMNMTT (MHRD, Government of India)
• Participated in the short term course on Data Analysis, SPSS MINITAB from 16th May to 22nd May 2016 at Karim City College, Jamshedpur under the scheme of PMMMNMTT (MHRD, Government of India)
• Chaired the Technical Session on Social Impact & Implications of E-Commerce in the Regional Seminar organized by Department of C.A & I.T. Karim city College Jamshedpur on 16th May 2016
• Co-Chaired the technical session on Infrastructure Development related to Economic Growth in the UGC Sponsored National conference organized by Faculty of Commerce and Department of Economics, Jamshedpur womens college, Jamshedpur on 5th and 6th August 2016.

Student Seminar

A student seminar was organized on 19.01.2017 in Room No.20 on the topic Demonetization of Indian Rupee The chief Guest on the occasion was Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Makki, Head Department of Political Science, Karim City College .All faculty members of the Department were present. 12 Students of the department presented their papers.

• A Parent Teacher Meeting of B.A. Part I Economics (Hons) Session 2015-16 was organized in Room No. 20 on 06.10.2016. Majority of the students along with their Parent /Guardian were present in the meeting.
