The Faculty of Commerce became an independent entity with the introduction of the B. Com course in 1963. Since its inception, the department has consistently worked to enhance its profile by serving the community through education and offering additional value-added courses. The M. Com program was launched in 2015, further strengthening the faculty’s offerings. Over the years, the faculty has established a remarkable reputation within the university and the state by achieving a high academic success rate, with numerous students graduating and post-graduating with distinction and first division.

- National Statistics Day
The Faculty of Commerce, Karim City College, celebrated National Statistics Day on June 29, 2024, in collaboration with the Sub-regional Office Jamshedpur, National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), Field Operation Division (FOD), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India. The theme for National Statistics Day this year was “Use of data in decision making.”
The celebration was inaugurated by a distinguished panel of guests including the Chief Guest, Dr. Dhananjay, District Transport Officer, East Singhbhum, Jamshedpur; Shri Amod Vivek, Senior Statistical Officer cum in-charge, NSSO(FOD); Dr. Prabhat Kumar Singh, Head of the Department of Statistics, Jamshedpur Cooperative College, Jamshedpur; Prof. In-Charge Dr. B.N. Tripathy; and Dr. Md. Moazzam Nazri, HOD, Commerce, Karim City College, Jamshedpur.
Dr. B.N. Tripathy welcomed the guests and applauded all faculty members of Commerce for organizing the event.
The program coordinator, Dr. Md. Moazzam Nazri, HOD, Commerce, Karim City College, provided an overview of the program and highlighted the contributions of Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in the field of statistics and national development. He also emphasized the importance of statistics in various fields like commerce & management, economics, science & technology, and five-year plan economic development.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Dhananjay, spoke about the crucial role of data in development planning at both national and state levels. He also urged the students of Karim City College to follow traffic rules, emphasizing the importance of data analysis for road safety and the tragic consequences of ignoring traffic regulations.

An awareness session for M. Com Semester 1 (2023 – 25 Batch) and M. Com Semester 3 (2022 – 24 Batch) was organized to motivate our PG students to prepare for NET/JRF exam. A renowned scholar Prof. (Dr.) Babu Bakhsh Mansuri, Department of Commerce, Aligarh Muslim University was shared his valuable insight and strategies. This online event was held on 16th February, 2024 at 5.00 pm in college auditorium.

Faculty of Commerce Karim City College, in association with the Board of Practical Training (Eastern Region), Kolkata, hosted a bustling Apprenticeship Cum Job Mela on September 14th and 15th, 2023.Over 50 renowned companies, including Tata Motors and Tata Steel, participated in the event, offering promising opportunities to hundreds of enthusiastic job.The event was inaugurated by a distinguished panel, including Prof. Jayant Shekhar, Registrar, Kolhan University, Chaibasa, and Dr. Mohammad Reyaz, Principal, of Karim City College, along with Shri K. Chandra Mouli, Assistant Director, BOPT(ER), and Dr. Md. Moazzam Nazri, HOD & Faculty-in-charge, Commerce (Nodal Officer). Through a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, they officially kicked off the Mela, emphasizing its potential to bridge the gap between education and employment.

- Conference Proceedings
We have successfully published the Proceedings of the Interdisciplinary National Conference on “Agriculture and Rural Development and their Share and Stake in Overall Economic Growth. “This accomplishment has been made possible through the generous grant support extended by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Jharkhand Regional Office, Ranchi. Their invaluable contribution not only enabled the smooth execution of the conference but also facilitated the publication of its comprehensive proceedings.
This proceeding was unveiled by Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, His Excellency Governor cum Chancellor of Universities of Jharkhand on 28th August, 2024 at Rajbhavan, Ranchi.

a. National Interdisciplinary Conference (4th& 5th January 2023)
A Two-Day National Interdisciplinary Conference on Agriculture and Rural Development and their Share and Stake in Overall Economic Growth was organized by the Faculty of Commerce, Karim City College, Jamshedpur in collaboration with NABARD Regional Office, Ranchi, Jharkhand, and sponsored by the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Jharkhand & Co-sponsored by NABARD Regional Office, Ranchi, Jharkhand on 4th & 5th January 2023.
The conference was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, His Excellency the Governor cum the Chancellor of the state of Jharkhand, Shri Ramesh Bais by lightening the lamp at 12 pm on 4th January 2023 followed by a welcome address by Dr. Mohammad Reyaz, Principal, Karim City College, Jamshedpur, and President of the Conference. After the welcome address, the souvenir of the Conference and book on GST, Elementary of GST and Customs Law written by Dr. Md. Moazzam Nazri, HOD, Commerce, Karim City College Jamshedpur were released by the Chief guest and other dignitaries. Dr. Md. Moazzam Nazri convenor of the Conference then introduced the topic of the Conference.

c. Workshop
A Workshop was organised jointly by Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Commerce, on “NEP 2020: A Visionary Roadmap towards Transforming Indian Education Focused on Science, Technology, Research and Skill Development” held on 5th September 2022. Dr. I Chattoraj, Director of CSIR-NML Jamshedpur was the Chief Guest in the Inaugural Session and Dr. Karunesh Kumar Shukla, Director of National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur was the chief guest in the Valedictory Session. The discussions of the workshop were divided into five parts and five resource persons namely Dr. D.K. Mitra from Jamshedpur Cooperative College, Jamshedpur, Dr. Abhilash Principal Scientist, CSIR-NML, Jamshedpur, Mr. Waris S. Imam Principal, Al-Kabir Polytechnic Jamshedpur, Dr.P.K.Pani, Finance Officer, Kolhan University, Chaibasa and Dr. Mohammad Ashiq Hassan, Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur, delivered their views on the respective topics in different dimensions of the topic.
d. Lecture on Understanding of Consumer Behaviour (3rd February, 2023)
A lecture on Understanding of Consumer Behaviourwas delivered by Dr. Syed Khalid Perwaiz, Professor, OB & HR Area VIT Business School, Vellore, on 3rd February 2023, at 5:00 pm in Room No. – 9. All Students of M.Com Semester-I & B.Com Semester-I were attended the session.
e. Lecture on Introduction to Research (2nd September 2022)
A lecture on Introduction to Researchwas delivered by Dr. Aabshar U. K. Imam , an alumnai of IIT Kharagpur, on 2nd September 2022, at 5:00 pm in Room No. – 9. All Students of M.Com Semester attended the session.
f. Departmental Seminar (3rd March, 2023 )
Departmental Seminar on Union Budget 2023-24 for students of M.Com Semester-1, Session 2022-24 was organized by PG. Department of Commerce on 4th January 2023 at 11:30 am. Mr. A. C. Lal, Income Tax Officer, Jamshedpur was invited as the Chief Guest and CMA Mr. Ramesh Sharma as the Guest of Honour on this auspicious occasion.

h. Parent Teachers Meeting
The objective of parent-teacher meetings in the faculty of commerce is to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas between faculty and parents for the benefit of students.
- To create awareness about the importance of attending lecturers.
- To reiterate Parents Role in building their wards career. ·
- Tips on how to improve the academic performance of the student.
- To explain the importance of a disciplined life. ·
- Informing the parents about the course outcomes.
Session wise meeting was organised in the department. The program formally began with the welcome address by HOD, Dr. Md. Moazzam Nazri and then it was handed over to other faculty members for further discussion. The faculty members have also highlighted the best practices followed by commerce faculty like Personal Guidance and Concurrent evaluation of the students, Guest Lecture, Industrial visits, Innovative Ideas, Social activities, and Study based Activities for the effective teaching-learning process and how they help students in placement and for higher studies. The PT meeting came to an end with the conclusion that the progress of the students depends on the joint effort, mutual understanding, and cooperation of parent-teachers and students.

Consumers Rights Day
The Faculty of Commerce, Karim City College, celebrated Consumer Rights Day on 30.03.2022 as a mark to honor and uphold the rights and privileges of consumers. The event was divided into two parts. In the first part, PG students at the college presented their papers on the said theme of Consumer Rights.
The event was graced by several eminent speakers and guests. Mr. Vidhan Chandra Choudhary, President, District Consumer Commission, Jamshedpur as Chief Guest, Prof Jayant Shekhar, Registrar of Kolhan University, Chaibasa as Guest of Honour, Mr. Om Prakash Tiwari, Senior Advocate, Civil Court Jamshedpur as Keynote Speaker.
Dr. Deepa Sharan, Dean and HOD and Dr. Deepak Kumar Mitra, Former HOD of PG Department of Commerce and Business Management Kolhan University, Chaibasa were also present in the event as Jury members.
In the words of chief guest, Mr. Vidhan Chandra Choudhary, this was an important occasion to join our voices and address the pressing challenges in the way of maximizing consumer protection and empowerment.
The keynote speaker appreciated the event and said it is necessary to observe this kind of event to be aware and save people against unethical practices of the corporation and protect our
people through social empowerment. Prof Jayant Shekhar said that on this day governments around the globe spread awareness about consumers’ rights and needs. Aim of this kind of celebration is to draw attention to market malpractices which undermine the rights of consumers, people must know the powers that consumers have in the law.
The chief Guest presents certificates and prizes to the winners of student seminar held on 1st session of the event on the theme. Saman Eram got 1st prize, Ojaswita Singh got 2nd prize and Rubaina Yasmine selected as third prize winner. All participants are provided participation certificate. Principal, Dr. Mohammad Reyaz, delivered the formal welcome address. HOD, Dr. Md Moazzam Nazri delivered vote of thanks. All faculty members of commerce Dr. G. Vijayalakshmi, Dr. Syed Zahid Perwaiz, Dr. Rashmi Akhtar, Dr. Aftab Alam, Dr. S.K. Anwar Ali, Mr. Rashid Iqbal Ansari and all other faculty members of college were present.
