The department was formed in 1961. Presently UG courses are conducted. Presently 101 students are enrolled in B.A Part 1. The department conducts several activities throughout the year to motivate the students, increase their interest in the subjects as well as broaden their perspectives about the subject. The new session begins with the Freshers Day followed by the Introductory lecture. The departments conducts two Class Tests every session. Student seminars are held every year. Parents Teachers meeting is organized lecture is organized. Presently there are four teachers. Three teachers are working against sanctioned posts.

Departmental Activity Calendar 2016 - 17

1. Freshers Day :The students of B.A Part 1 were given a formal welcome on 3rd August and were introduced to the faculty. The event was held in August. The head of the department welcomed the new students and introduced the faculty to them.
2. Introductory Lecture : The students were formally introduced to their syllabus on 7th August and all the teachers of the department introduced the part of the syllabus that they were supposed to take. This Introductory lecture was held for B.A Part 1 and B. Part 2 also.
3. Gandhi Jayanti : Gandhi Jayanti was observed by the department and on this occasion a small internal lecture was organized.
4. Student Seminar : A student Seminar was held of B.A Part 2 students on 10th May 2016. Eight students took part in it. The topic of the seminar was Rulers of Ancient Indian History. It was held Jan 2017 in the Room Number 32. The Chief Guest of the seminar was Dr Md Zakaria, principal, Karim City College. 12 students took part in the seminar. Dr Indrasen Singh, the head of the department of History welcomed the guests and the programme was conducted by Pooja Sannigrahi of B.A Paer 1.
5. Departmental Test : A departmental Test was held for the students of B.A Part 1 & 2 in the month of February.
6. Visit to the Coin Museum :Part 3 students were taken to the Coin Museum in March and they came to see and know about coins and numismatics.
7. Lecture : A lecture was organized by the department and Dr Sanjay Nath of Co-operative college was invited to deliver a lecture on The Importance of Literary Sources.
8. Parent teacher Meeting : A parent Teacher meeting was held in April 2017 .
9. Movie Screening : The movie Shatranj ke Khilari was screened in the Media Appreciation Room for B.A Part 3 students.
10. Farewell : Farewell was given to the B.A Part 3 students by the students of B.A Part 1 and B.A Part 2 students on 13th April 2017. It was small event where a short programme for the outgoing batch was organized with two songs and sharing of experience by three Part 3 students. The programme was held in room no. 22. Dr I.S Singh, HOD Department of History spoke to the students on this occasion.Eram of B.A Part 1 and Afreen of B.A Part 3 sang a song and a ghazal respectively. Apart from the teachers of the department, it was attended by Dr Aftab Alam Ansari, Dr Anwar Shahab, Dr Ejaz Ahmad, Dr Fakhruddin Ahmad etc.
11. Parent Teacher Meeting : A Parent Teacher meeting was organized in March.

PROPOSED ACTIVITY CALENDER 2017-2018

1. Freshers Day : The students of B.A Part 1 of the sessions 2017-2018 will be welcomed by their seniors in the Ist week of July
   
2. Introductory Lecture : Introductory Lecture by the teachers of the department defining their own areas in July.
3. Gandhi Jayanti : Screening of the movie Gandhi in October.
4. Human Rights Day : Observing Human Rights by making the students aware of their rights on 10th December.
5. Departmental Class Tests : B.A Part 1,2 and 3 will be having their tests in January.
6. Students Seminar : Students seminar of both B.A Part 1 and 2 in January and February respectively.
7. Visit to the Coin Museum and Tribal Culture Centre : Students will be taken to the Coin Museum and the Tribal Culture Centre in the last week of January.
8. Parents Teachers Meeting : Parents Teachers Meeting will be held in the month of September and February.
9. Lecture by Outside Experts : Students of B.A Part 3 will be addressed by outside experts.
10. Panel Discussion : A panel discussion on the Relevance of Ambedkar in the Present Age in collaboration with the department of Political Science will be held in the month of March.
