ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Botany was established in 1978. Prof. Dr. Nuusrat Tauheed Hashmi as the founding head and Currently, the departments boasts two highly  qualified faculty members including Dr. Aftab Alam Khan(HOD) and Dr. Sharmila Chakarborty. Mr. Khurshid Alam as a Lab incharge and Mr. Sandeep Roy diligently serves as non-teaching staff in the department.

The Botany department is fully equipped with apparatus and class work materials up to research level. Projector, Computer, Chart, Model, Permanent Slide, and Smart Classrooms prioritize practical learning environment. The department has wide collection of books caters to the diverse need of student.

The department organizes prescribed Excursion and short excursion programme for botany Hon’s students.

Under the umbrella of NEP-2020, the Department has started prescribed field visits of local Garden and smart classes.

Finally we aim to start PG classes in Botany with all such efforts and equipments.

VISION

Our vision is to conduct innovative research, teaching and outreach on the patterns and processes of life with a focus on plants and their environments. Our attempt is to prepare students for lifelong learning by drawing attention to the vast world of knowledge of plants and introducing to the methodology of systematic academic enquiry. With this in mind, we aim to provide a firm foundation in every aspect of Botany and to explain a broad spectrum of modern trends in Botany.

  • To restart add on course on pollution management.
  • To develop human resource.
  • To educate students with the fundamental knowledge and the application of scientific method, skill and attitudes with the help of conventional and modern tools to understand every related to plant.
  • To impart a student cantered profession oriented multi-disciplinary higher education in research environment.
  • To establish collaboration with eminent institutes for the benefit of the students.
  • To advance the fundamental knowledge of plant science through innovative research thereby creating a positive impact on society and the country.

History of the Department

  • Botany Dept. was started and established in 1978 September by Dr. Nusrat Tauheed (Head) and Mr A.Kazmi (lab Tech.)
  • In 1981 August Dr Aftab Alam Khan joined the department and later in 1996 November Dr Sharmila Chakraborty joined us.
  • The dept. has courses up to Hons. level in B.SC. Part-I, II & III
  • The deptt started Pollution Management course under Add-on course. Dr Nusrat Tauheed acted as coordinator and contributed in making new syllabus for Kolhan University . The course had been of great benefit for the students of Industrial Town.
  • The Deptt. has three eminent professor, One lab. Technician and one attendant .
  • The Lab. Is fully equipped with apparatus and class work materials up to research level.
  • Each year students are doing very satisfactory performance by ranking top position in university.
  • The teachers are undertaking minor research projects under UGC scheme.

DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY YEAR 2024 -2025

During this session 2024 -2025 Botany department has organised no of activities for Teachers and students. Following is brief report.

  • On 4th July 2024 Department of Botany organised a Seminar of Major III students session 2022-2026.
  • On 18th July 2024 a class test of SEM VI paper CC14 will held in department.
  • Students at Jubilee Park on 14th August by department of Botany.
  • On 12thSeptemberr 2024 a class test will be held for major I.
  • On the 20th November 2024 a class test will organised for Major I students.
  • On the 10th December 2024 a Departmental seminar will organised for Major III.
  • On 18th Dec 2024 Department of Botany organised a Seminar of Major IV.
  • On 9th Jan 2025 a short excursion will be held for students of Major 1by Department of Botany.
  • On 12th Feb 2025 teachers parents meeting will be organised by Department of Botany for Major I students session 2024-2028.
  • On 06thMarch 2025 Department of Botany organised a Seminar of Major III students.
  • On 16th April 2025 Botany department will be organised parents teacher meeting of Major III students.

 

DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY YEAR 2023 -2024

Short Excursion are conducted by Department of Botany in year 2023-2024   

  • An one day educational tour was organised for Sem 1 students on 28-01-2023 for field studies in natural condition to Patamda session (2022-2026).
  • A short Excursion trip for students of Major 1 session (2023-2027) organised on 26-07-23 to Jubleepark.
  • An educational trip was organised by the department of Botany for Minor III students on 10-07-24 to visit Jubleepark and Gramnala area for Plant identification.
  • An one day educational tour was organised for SEM VI students on 30-07-24 to visit Horticulture centre Bandhugora district Saraikela session (2021-2024).

             Seminars are conducted by Department of Botany in year 2023-2024. 

  • A Departmental seminar was organised on dated 11-12-23 in Botany department by students of Sem I Major session (2023-2027) on the topic of Microbiology.
  • A departmental Seminar held in Botany department on 12-12-2023 given by students of Sem IV session (2021-2024).
  • A departmental seminar was held in Botany department on 05-03-2024 by students of Sem I session (2023-2027) topic Algae.
  • A Departmental Seminar was held in Botany Department on 07-03-24 by students of Sem V, Session 2021-2024.The topic was Genetics.
  • A departmental Seminar was on 06—03-24 by Students of SEM II session 2022-2026.The topic was Plant Pathology.
  • A departmental Seminar was held in Botany department on 06-07-2024 by students of SEM II session 2023-2027. The topic is Fungi.
  • A departmental seminar was held in Botany department on 11-07-24 by students of SEM III session 2022-2026. The topic was Gymnosperm.

 

Farewell is conducted by Department of Botany in year 2023-2-24 

  • On 7th August the students of SEM II & SEM III had organised a farewell function for outgoing batch SEM VI batch of session 2021-2024.

 

 

Departmental Activities: The Department of Botany at Karim City College, Jamshedpur, actively engages students through diverse activities, including seminars, and geographical exhibitions. The Department conducts regular Departmental meetings to facilitate collaborative planning and coordination among faculty members. Moreover, it provides support through remedial classes, counseling for slow learners, group discussions, and student seminars utilizing PowerPoint presentations. ICT, instructional aides, and internal assessments to enhance the overall educational experience. The following are the key activities conducted by the Department during an academic calendar:
